Numerous Fires Flare Up in Aftermath of Lifted Burn Ban
Firefighters across Fayette County stayed busy battling fires that spread out of control after Commissioners lifted the burn ban on Thursday, Oct. 31.
“Although it rained, the grass is not going to green up,” said La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee. “This is going to be a nightmare before it’s all over, if people don’t start being cautious about burning.”
La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got called out three times on Saturday, Nov. 2. Around 11:23 a.m. that day the La Grange firefighters responded to property along US 77 north of La Grange. According Menefee, a group of people were shooting explosive charges with guns, and one of the charges ignited some surrounding grass. Firefighters put out the fire before it caused any major damage.
