Information Sought in Two Burglaries

Fayette County Crimestoppers is offering reward money for information about two burglaries at businesses on State Highway 71 west of La Grange.

The first burglary happened at Hayworth Roofing, located at 3435 W. SH 71. The break-in was discovered on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 13. 

According to a report from Sgt. Charles Jobb of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, someone cut a lock off the back gate to gain entry. Video surveillance showed a person on the west side of the building around 1:13 a.m. The person was wearing a hoodie, face mask and backpack. Investigators were unable to identify the suspect. 

Jobb said Hayworth lost a Kubota SVL95 skid steer valued at $66,000, a 32-foot gooseneck trailer with ramps valued at $7,500, and a silver 2018 Dodge one-ton pickup valued at around $30,000. 

The second burglary happened at Sherer Kubota, located at 4349 W. SH 71, sometime between Monday evening, Nov. 18, and Tuesday morning, Nov. 19. Employees discovered the break in while opening for business on that Tuesday morning. Jobb said one of Scherer’s forklifts was used to crash through a fence. The culprit or culprits then stole a Kubota RTV valued at $16,649.

Jobb said investigators could not determine whether the two break-ins were related. He urged property owners to record vehicle identification numbers (VIN) and serial numbers on vehicles and equipment. Jobb said law enforcement can more easily recover stolen items that come up for sale when officers know the VINs or serial numbers.
