New Delay For EMS Building Move-In
Fayette County EMS might not move into its new La Grange headquarters before the end of the year.
The move-in day was originally supposed to take place back in September. The big holdup now involves drains that were placed at the wrong location in the cement slab of the $1.8 million facility.
At a meeting last Wednesday, County Inspector Clint Sternadel, who has been supervising the construction project for the County, said the drains will have to be cut out of the concrete and back-filled. New holes will then have to be cut and the drains reinstalled. However, Sternadel said, the builder wants the county to pay for it.
“Why are we having to pay for that?” County Judge Joe Weber asked.
Sternadel said that the construction plans included a note that instructed the contractor to measure an ambulance to verify proper placement of the drains. The drains are designed to remove air conditioner condensation from ambulances that would otherwise collect inside the bays.
