Baca
Florence Henry Baca, 90, of Fayetteville passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, after a lengthy illness.
Florence was born in Houston on April 29, 1929, the daughter of Mary Evelyn (Bowles) and Charles Scroggins Monroe.
Florence married Dr. James W. Henry, Jr. after graduating from Incarnate Word Academy Catholic School in Houston. They were blessed with three children: Lynda Gale Henry, James W. Henry, III, and Michael Louis Henry. While raising her children, Florence served as PTA President. She became an active member of the Woman’s Republican Party and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention. Florence also served as a member of the Women’s Medical Axillary.
Florence married to Gilbert “Gil” V. Baca on Nov. 12, 1979. They moved to Fayetteville and shared a wonderful life together until his death in 2008. There was nothing she loved more than joining her husband, Gil Baca on stage. She was known for playing her tambourine, singing Czech songs and belting her rendition of “Elvira.” Florence truly loved life and never met a stranger. In later years, Gil and Florence traveled around the world. They enjoyed life and their friends who loving called Florence: “Flo.”
Flo loved entertaining and was considered a gourmet cook by many. She would never use a recipe, but would instead cook by taste~ which was a real talent. It gave her great joy to be able to share her home-cooked food with her friends and family. Florence especially loved her Fayetteville community. She treasured the good times and good memories spent there.
She is survived by her son, Michael Henry of Houston; daughter, Lynda Cushing and husband, Stephen of Fayetteville; grandson, Jeffery Kouba of Brooklyn, NY; granddaughter, Alison Boeke and husband, Brandon of Seattle, Wash.; great-grandson, Max Boeke; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. All that have been mentioned loved her tremendously and touched her life deeply.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert “Gil” Baca; son, James W. Henry, III; two sisters: Dorothy Mae (Monroe) Earthman and Carolyn Monroe; and brother, Charles Monroe.
The family would like to thank all who loved and visited Flo during her illness. A special heartfelt thanks to those who gave her the gift of music and helped lift her spirit: Kay Martin, Teresa Ross, Harlan Kubos, Michael Stroup, Alvin Minarcek, Joe Dybala, and Diane Allen.
