Texas Heroes Day Set for Sept. 20 at Monument Hill

Texas Heroes Day is Saturday, September 20. That is the day when Texans will honor the brave volunteers who fought

and died in the Dawson Massacre and the Mier Expedition in 1842 and 1843. The battlefield remains of these heroes were returned to La Grange and reburied in a stone crypt in 1848. The grave was further marked in 1936 by a 48- foot high obelisk complete with guardian angel
