Adventures in the Barnyard
By AILEEN LOEHR.
As a child, I often went to the barn to see if “Chicken Hen Two Yoke” was up in her nest box ready to lay her egg. I liked to eat her eggs because you got more (as her name implied, her eggs usually contained two yokes instead of one). But there was one problem. If I didn’t see her lay an egg, I could not determine which egg was hers. One morning she flew up to the nest. I decided to stand guard in case she left and I would mark the egg.
