Dottie Marie (Koehl) Roberts Meinardus, 79, of La Grange, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 in La Grange. Dottie was born in La Grange on Feb. 14, 1935, the daughter of Manly and Elsie (Wagner) Koehl. On Nov. 3, 1955 she married Richard Roberts. On Sept. 20, 1980, she married A.W. Meinardus in La Grange. Dottie graduated from La Grange High School, where she was voted “Most Likely to Succeed”. She was a F.H.A. Officer, Senior Class Officer, and Editor-in-Chief of the high school annual. She was involved in sports and the cheerleading/pep squad. In 1954 she was the first Football Sweetheart of La Grange High School. Dottie created the Miss La Grange, Mr. Muscle Man and Little Miss Mermaid pageant at the La Grange City Pool. She was a lifetime honorary member of the Fayette County Fair Association where she created the queens pageant. She also was involved with The Fair View News and the Womanless Talent Show.
After high school, Dottie’s passion for being involved led her to a career in sales at KVLG radio. She hosted her own radio show “To Tell The Ladies” and co-hosted the radio show “The Cleaning Lady”. She also worked at La Grange Journal and wrote her own column “Dots Dashes” in the Banner Press Newspaper in La Grange. She is survived by three daughters: Denise Speckels and husband Bruce, Sheilah Popp and husband Craig, and Shelly Zbranek and husband Zeebo, all of La Grange; one son, Ricky Roberts of La Grange; one step-daughter, Lisa Boenker and husband, Wayne of College Station; two step-sons: Dale Meinardus of Oldenburg and Timmy Meinardus of Houston; twelve grandchildren: Bridgette and Brodie Popp, Ashley Virnau, Lezli and Lauren Zbranek, Blayne and Blayre Mozisek, Dena, Luke, and Bret Meinardus, and Taylor and Reagan Boenker; ten great-grandchildren: Chelsea Popp, Marcus Darden II, Abigail Guinand, Jackson, Grayson, and Jagger Meinardus, Adelyne, Wren, and Townes Mozisek, and Gavin Coronado; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manly and Elsie Koehl; her husband, A.W. Meinardus; and step-daughter, Cathy Mozisek. Visitation was held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 from 12 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Funeral Services were held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home Chapel, located at 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014. Burial followed at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange, Texas 78945; or to a charity of one’s choice.
