Proposed Schulenburg Sports Bar Among Latest Developments Downtown
The Schulenburg Economic Development Corporation gave preliminary approval to a $50,000 low interest loan for a coffee shop and sports bar development in downtown. The loan will now go to City Council for a vote on final approval.
Holly and Mike Czimskey, owners of Tillie’s Cafe at 621 North Main Street, plan to expand their business into the two buildings west of their current location. According to a funding application submitted to the EDC, the project includes a sports bar and restaurant to be called Joe’s, named after Holly’s late cousin Joe Stavinoha, a 1999 graduate of Schulenburg High School.
The plans submitted to EDC state that Tillies Cafe would move into the building at 625 North Main, which previously housed the Texas Polka Museum, which has moved to Lyons Ave. across from Wells Fargo. Joe’s would be built inside 623 North Main, which previously served as a business office for the Wolters Family. The current Tillie’s location at 621 North Main would be converted into office space and restrooms for Joe’s.
