Deadline to Apply for UT Local Internship Program is Jan. 31

The IC² Institute at the University of Texas is offering a summer internships to UT students from Fayette County. 

The Home to Texas program matches UT students from Fayette County with employers in Fayette County. The deadline to apply is Friday, Jan. 31. 

Fayette County employers that have been officially accepted into the program are:

  1. The City of La Grange, which strives to make La Grange a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family. 
  2. La Grange Independent School District, serving close to 2000 local students.
  3. Fayette County – local government with wide variety of departments including county clerk, EMS, sheriff, etc.
  4. AlgEternal Technologies LLC, an algae biotechnology company with a line of skin care products and a line of soil amendment products and plans to expand to the food, nutraceutical, biomaterials, and ecosystem services markets.
  5. McCourt & Sons Equipment, Inc., serving customers throughout Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, New Mexico and beyond with sales and rentals of portable and stationary crushing, screening, conveying, washing, grinding and recycling equipment.
  6. Turtle Wing Foundation, which helps children with learning challenges in rural areas achieve their full potential.
  7. Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (CVTC)offers local and long-distance telephone service as well as high-speed broadband services--one of the largest employers in Fayette County and committed to giving back to the community. 
  8. The PlatForum provides a marketplace for local products, services, and experiences, which are sold by students, faculty, non-profits, and community members for local fundraising.

“These employers gives us a nice balance of public-sector and private sector employers,” said Debra Dzwonczyk, who heads up the Home to Texas program for UT’s IC² Institute. Students will rotate between these employers during the summer.

CVTC is interested in making a contribution to the Home to Texas scholarship fund and having a fourth student intern for the whole summer at CVTC, highlighting post-graduation full-time opportunities.   

Nearby communities are also expected to participate in Home to Texas with employers from Smithville, Bastrop, and Brenham possible.

Students interns will be paid a $5,000 stipend and will recieve free training provided by IC² Institute.  The program’s summer networking event also provides an opportunity for local students to hear from community members and leaders about opportunities beyond the summer internship program.
