Airport Runway Bump to Cost $650,000 to Repair
A bump in the runway and taxiway of Fayette Regional Air Center could cost up to $650,000 to repair. The airport hopes to obtain grant funding to make the repairs.
Airport Manager Debra Maddox said one local pilot began noticing the bump about 10 years ago, but recently it has gotten worse. However, she said the bump does not currently pose any danger to aircraft.
The bump is located at the spot where the runway and taxiway were extended 20 years ago from 4,000 feet to 5,000 feet to accommodate larger planes and jets. Maddox believes the bump formed from shifting soil.
