Katie Youens Wolters, aged 75, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Monument Hill Nursing Center in La Grange.

Katie, also known as “Krysha”, was born Krystyna Yvonne Wright in Mexborough, England on Oct. 10, 1944 to Beryl (Bullock) Wright and husband Ray. She attended local schools in Barnburgh and later Barnsley College and the Sheffield School of Nursing, from which she graduated as a registered nurse.

After working as an RN in London for four years, Katie moved to Fort Worth in 1971 on a one-year nursing exchange at Harris Hospital. There she met Karl Youens, whom she married on March 17, 1972. The couple then moved to Columbus, where they raised their two sons, Mark and Nick.

Katie enjoyed life and knew how to make the best of any situation with a little help from her trademark dry humor and an infectious laugh. She loved travel, gardening, and the arts -- and she absolutely delighted in cooking, especially for others. It has been said that upon arrival at Katie’s house you were going to eat -- whether you wanted to or not. She was generous to a fault and as genuine a person as you could meet; you always knew where you stood with Katie. The life of any party, she loved to spend time with friends and family, though her greatest joy was welcoming her grandchildren into the world as their “Grammy”. The grandkids say she will be remembered most for her jokes and ability to make them laugh.

Katie’s everlasting smile will live on in the memories of all who survive her: son Mark Youens, daughter-in-law Kiesha Youens and their children Campbell, Riley and Graham of La Grange; and son Nick Youens and his children Sloan and Colt of Columbus; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
