Stork

Emmett Jacob Stork passed away from ALS complications on April 18, 2020 in San Antonio at age 86. He was born Jan. 1, 1934 in Fayette County, to Herbert Robert and Viola Henniger Stork and is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elda Stork and sister Maynette Weishuhn.

Graduating from Round Top -Carmine High School in 1951, Emmett attended Texas Lutheran College and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, and in the Army Ready Reserves until 1960, attaining the rank of Specialist E-5 and receiving an Honorable Discharge.

Emmett married Elda Lina Kautz on May 10, 1959 and together raised four children. Emmett spent most of his working career in several Air Force agencies. He was a biochemist and classroom instructor at the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base for 12 years. The next 18 years he was employed as a petroleum chemist by the Directorate of Aerospace Fuels at Kelly Air Force Base.

Following his retirement, Emmett became involved in Republican Party politics at various positions, including Wilson County Republican Chairman. He also continued his love of writing editorials for the local newspapers where he was not bashful about voicing his views. Emmett also enjoyed numerous years as a substitute teacher for La Vernia ISD.

He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Vernia, serving three terms on the Congregational Council. He spent much time and energy in fundraising activities to benefit the sick and needy through various community organizations including Thrivent Financial, Hermann Sons and Kicaster Cemetery.

He is survived by his children, Darlene Reeves and husband Dan, Donna Prater and husband Tony, Charles Stork and wife Candy and Diana Bell and husband Allen. He is also survived by grandchildren, Rebecca Reeves, Robert Reeves and wife Jacy, Lauren Prater, Jacob Prater, Troy Stork, Kaylyn Stork, Amanda Bell and Christian Bell; great-grandson Kieran Reeves; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

The family will hold a private graveside service and burial at this time. A public memorial service to celebrate the life of Emmett will be held at a later date when it is safe for friends and family to gather.
