Plan Would Make Drug Officers Among Highest Paid County Employees

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office wants to give some big raises to its two drug interdiction officers. The request came at the same meeting last Thursday in which the county auditor said she anticipates a significant dip in revenue due to the economic shutdown and advised officials to tighten spending.

Under the plan submitted to the Commissioners Court at the April 23 meeting, the salary of one officer would nearly double from $48,000 to $94,000 annually. The other officer would see his salary rise from roughly $47,000 to $75,000 annually.

The Record requested a current list of the highest paid positions in the County government, but the County Auditor’s office did not reply in time for this publication. The 2020 County Budget lists the salaries of all elected officials who are paid out of the County’s coffers. According to those numbers, the two officers would each make more than what the County pays Judge Joe Weber, the four commissioners and even their boss, Sheriff Keith Korenek.
