Pickering

Jerry Michael Pickering (Mike) passed away at the age of 75, on Friday, April 24, 2020 from pneumonia at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange.

Mike is survived by his wife, Jane; his two daughters, Marie and Carla; his brother, Larry; and three sisters, Virginia, Teresa and Tina. Also surviving are three nephews and seven nieces.

Michael was born Feb. 27, 1945 in Paris, Texas to Gordon and Juanita Pickering. He grew up as a young boy in New Orleans and later moved to Fort Worth where he graduated from Pascal High School.

He married Jane Eisenbrown in Houston on Aug. 17, 1980. They soon moved to Schulenburg where they built a home and owned and operated 2 J’s Machine Shop. Michael had a passion for life and was known as a small boy as Dennis the menace. He grew up to become a wonderful man that was deeply loved by his family and friends. Michael’s friends and family will also remember Michael’s passion for hot rods and the many times they saw him racing his 1967 red Camaro at the racetrack.

Due to recent health concerns, and in accordance with the CDC and local County Judge recommendations, the family has requested a private viewing. A public visitation was held at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange on April 29, 2020 from 3 to 6 p.m. A graveside service was held at Freyburg Methodist Cemetery in Freyburg on Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. If you would like to attend, out of respect for the family’s wishes, we request that you stay in your vehicle with the windows down.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson La Grange, Texas 78945; Alzheimer’s Association, Capital of Texas Chapter, 3429 Executive Center Dr. Suite 110 Austin, Texas 78731; or the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange.
