Vastine Mueller

Vastine Mueller went to his eternal rest on April 18, 2015. He was born on March 11, 1925 in Rutersville to Hermann and Wilhelmina Helmken Mueller. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Lorena Parker on Jan. 9, 1949. For 32 years he worked as a chemical engineer for Getty/Texaco. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved his church life, music and dancing, history and poetry, birdwatching, and gardening. He enjoyed handcrafting cedar walking canes which he donated to local charity auctions. He loved his little patch of woods and the creatures that live there. He is survived by his wife, Lorena Mueller of La Grange, two sons: David Mueller and his wife Mitzi of Portland; and Gerald Mueller of Houston; one daughter: Mary Gassiott and husband Tim of Sealy; three grandsons: Derek Mueller and his wife Sarah of Spring, and James and Joel Gassiott of Sealy; one granddaughter, Evelyn Betz and husband Tyler of Portland; one great-granddaughter, Cloe Mueller of Spring; and two sisters: Doris Hartman and Marian Frerichs, both of Fayette County. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Herbert, Leon, and Lorenz Mueller; four sisters: Hilda Peters, Edna Stahmer, Esther Wied, and Louise Witt; and one infant great –grandson, Cole Mueller. Visitation was held Monday, April 20, 2015 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in La Grange with interment to follow in the Rutersville Cemetery. For those wishing to make memorials the family suggests Mt. Calvary Preschool, 800 N.
