Evelyn (Kuhn) Bolling
Evelyn (Kuhn) Bolling, 96, of Houston, died Saturday, May 23, 2015. Evelyn was born in Carmine on Dec. 9, 1918, the daughter of William Kuhn and Annie (Giessel) Kuhn. She moved to Houston to find work. While there, she met Elmer Theo Bolling at Bill Mraz Dance Hall in Houston where she loved to go and listen to the polka music they played. Elmer was from the Schulenburg/Swiss Alp area of Fayette County and had recently moved to Houston also to find work. She fell in love and married Elmer on Aug. 5, 1949 in Houston, where she devoted her life to her husband and raising her two sons. She enjoyed listening to polka music and watching polka shows on TV, especially Big Joe bringing all the polka bands to the Carmine Red Barn; reading romance novels; going out to eat her favorite food, fried shrimp; people watching; and striking up a conversation with anyone anywhere. Evelyn kept her small town charm even though she lived in the city. She always wanted to keep up with what was going on in Fayette County. She was a life-long subscriber to the Fayette County Record and looked forward to reading each issue once it came in the mail. She is survived by two sons: Wayne Bolling and wife, Hermelinda of Houston and John and wife, Barbara, of Sugar Land; one granddaughter, Laura Allyn Bolling of Sugar Land; sisters: Gladys Kuhn Elolf of Conroe and Doris Kuhn Sula and husband, Joe, of Friendswood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer and brother, E.W. Kuhn. Funeral Services were held at United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2038 FM 3171 (Swiss Alp) in Schulenburg at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Burial followed at United Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2038 FM 3171, Schulenburg, Texas 78956 or Martin Luther Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 362, Carmine, Texas 78932. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com. Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.
