Marion Frances

Marion Frances (Vavra) Cernota, 76, of Houston (formerly of Fayetteville), died Saturday, June 13, 2015. Marion was born in Brenham on July 14, 1938, the daughter of Jerome and Albina (Mikeska) Vavra. She married Henry Cernota, Jr. on Nov. 12, 1956 in Houston. She loved going to church, attending church picnics, polka dancing, crossword puzzles and bingo. She was a gentle and kind woman throughout her life. She dearly loved her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Henry Cernota, Jr.; four sons: Raymond Cernota and wife, Ulai, of Houston, David Cernota of Houston, Thomas Cernota and wife, Sandy, of Katy, and Donald Cernota; daughter, Sandra Briones and husband, Roger, of La Grange; sister, Lillie Mae Brightwell of Fayetteville; aunt, Sylvia Vavra of Houston; eight grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-inlaw, Robert “Bob” Brightwell.. Visitation was held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange. Family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl St. in La Grange, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015. Burial will follow at La Grange City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
