Mildred Mae Williams was born Oct. 5, 1916 to Ewing and Mable Schermack in La Grange. She grew up in La Grange and attended public school. She completed her high school education at the old “Colored High School,” now Randolph Recreation Center. She married her childhood sweetheart, Troy Williams in 1934, who preceded her in death on June 16, 2006. The couple had two children, Troy William Jr., who preceded her in death on May 5, 2013, and Joyce Louise (Williams) Stewart. They were later blessed with four grandchildren, Pamela Denise (Stewart) Pleasant, Cheryl Diane Stewart, Michael Jerome Williams, and Robin Michelle Williams. They had four great-grandchildren, Courtney De’Shawn Pleasant, Charla Joyce Pleasant, Jonzetta Jalaya (Pleasant) Evans, and Isabella Evans. They had four great-great granddaughters, Logan Troi-Grace Pleasant and Lavon Troi-Joyce Pleasant, twins named after their great-great grandfather, as well as Jada Rochelle Alexander, and Joauna Christina Evans. She was converted at an early age and joined the St. James United Methodist Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She worked in La Grange as a seamstress. She was also well known for her baking and community service. She loved La Grange and everyone that lived here. She and her husband touched the lives of a multitude of people over her 99 short years, all races, ages, and cultures. Those who shall forever cherish precious memories that have been indelibly written on our hearts and minds are a loving daughter; Joyce, four grandchildren, Pamela and husband Charles Pleasant Jr., Cheryl, Michael, and Robin; four great-grandchildren, Courtney, Charla, Jonzetta and husband Anthony Evans, and Isabella; four great-great granddaughters, Logan, Lavon, Jada, and Joauna and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family too numerous to mention. A visitation will be held for Mildred on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at United Covenant of Hope Church of God, 6555 Mesa Road in Houston. Funeral services will be held at Tommy E. Taylor Funeral Home, 844 E. Guadalupe St. in La Grange, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. Reverend Willie Mae Williams will be officiating with internment to be held at La Grange City Cemetery.
