Calvin Gerhard Markert

Funeral Services for Calvin Gerhard Markert, 85 of Dime Box, were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Tab Ottmers officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Giddings American Legion York Post 276, followed in the Markert Family Cemetery in Dime Box. Calvin Gerhard Markert was born on Feb. 14,1930 in Manheim, Texas, the son of Gerhard Otto Markert and Estella (Fritsche) Markert. He served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. Calvin was united in marriage to Ruth Anna Johanna Weiser on Nov. 29, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. They were blessed with 3 children, Rose, Dennis and Diana. Calvin died Jan. 13, 2016 in Brenham. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, 4 Brothers and 1 Sister. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project P.O.
