Markham Anthony Midgett (Midge), 75, lost his battle with cancer on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at his home in West Point. He was born Sept. 17, 1940, in Wharton, one of six children to Earsie (Hale) Midgett and Edd Scott Midgett. He graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1959 and attended Wharton Junior College. He married Glenda (Dodd) Midgett on Feb. 19, 1974. Midge was active in ranching and raising donkeys, horses, and mules for many years. He instilled his love for animals, nature, and the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. Other hobbies included beekeeping, lapidary work, and his grandchildren’s activities. He was very passionate about his family. His great love for them showed in his encouragement in everything they did. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Glenda Midgett; two daughters, Cindy Wiese and husband Kenney of Cranfills Gap, and Becky Weikel and husband Philip of La Grange; four grandkids, Kenneth Wiese, Kameron Wiese, Mara Weikel, and Anthony Weikel; one brother, Richard Midgett and wife Sandra of Mena, Ark.; one sister, Betty Quinney and husband Grady of Markham; two sister-in-laws, Alma Ann Midgett of San Antonio, and Esther Midgett of Victoria; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clay Anthony Midgett; one sister, Marian Marx; and two brothers, Bill Midgett and Lawrence Ray Midgett. The family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a cancer research center of one’s choice. Fayette Memeorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
