Schools Win on Election Day

In Schulenburg, City Council incumbents Roland Kalina and Brenda Rehak were defeated by challengers Arnold Stoever and Harvey Hercik. Stoever defeated Kalina 260-161. Hercik defeated Rehak 247-168. Councilman Larry Veselka was also up for re-election but did not have an opponent. He received 362 votes.
Schulenburg ISD voters approved a $5.6 million bond package for security improvements and a new career and technology facility by a vote of 427-348.
Voters narrowly rejected a second proposal for $350,000 to fix the school’s running track 378-389.
In Round Top, Mayor Barnell Albers prevailed over challenger Mike Koenig by a vote of 43-23. Voter turnout was nearly 88 percent in the Round Top municipal election, with 66 of 76 eligible voters casting ballots.
Round Top-Carmine ISD voters approved a $2,385,000 bond by a vote of 200-40. The bond will pay for security improvements and remodeling classrooms at the high school, heating and air conditioning improvements throughout the district, new buses, and new technology and instructional equipment.
Fayetteville also held a municipal election to reauthorize a .25 percent city sales tax. Voters approved that measure 36-4.
