Planned Snake Farm is Hisstory

By ANDY BEHLEN  Fayette County Commissioners Court held a special meeting on Monday, May 16, with only one item on the agenda – a prohibition against non-native snakes and reptiles. It’s passage (which updates a decade-old dangerous animal ordinance that already banned the likes of cheetahs and rhinos) stymied plans by a Bastrop County resident to build a roadside attraction featuring snakes and reptiles in Plum.

“We came up with this because of a situation with an individual wanting to bring in venomous snakes,” Janecka said at the meeting.

That individual is Brook Berntson, a Bastrop County resident who recently raised the ire of officials there for keeping a number of reptiles and snakes at his home in Tahitian Village.
