Snake at the Picnic

Our family and friends were enjoying a picnic at Hueco Tanks State Park near El Paso on Memorial Day. The kids were sitting at the picnic table (obviously, we have not taught them proper manners) while the adults were sitting on a blanket. After finishing my sandwich and amid the general din of storytelling and complaining, I heard a “tch-tch” behind me on the left. I didn’t think much of it, until I heard it a second time. I turned my head around slowly thinking it would be very cool to see a rattlesnake. And sure enough, my wish had come true.
