Remember When?

By Elayne Thomas

June 24-28, 1966 The Alamo Area Tuberculosis Association’s free chest x-ray unit was swamped during its one-day  peration in La Grange. An association official said the unit handled 631 persons, some of whom waited in line until 7:15 p.m. On July 1, about 19 million older Americans were to be protected under Medicare’s new hospital insurance program. More than 17 million who had signed up for the supplementary medical insurance would also have protection for the payment of doctor bills and other medical services even if they did not go to a hospital.
