A statewide average hike of 6% in Texas auto insurance was announced by Texas Insurance Board Chairman W. Hunter McLean. Fayette County drivers were advised they would pay an average of $3 more for bodily injury and property damage liability. However, the rate for $100 deductible collision insurance was to be the same. For $50 deductible policies, insurance would be $4 higher. Some of the detailed costs were: Class 1A (no male operator under 25, car not used in business or driven to and from work): liability $41; $50 deductible, $57; $100 deductible $43. Class 1B (no male operator under 25, car not used for business, but driven to and from work): same as Class 1A. Class 2A (male driver under 25, though not owner or principal operator, regardless of whether auto was used for business): liability $113; $50 deductible, $168; $100 deductible, $127.
