John Charles Crow

John Charles Crow was born on July 19, 1948 at Baylor Hospital’s Florence Nightingale Wing in Dallas. He grew up in Mesquite. John is survived by his sweetheart, Pat Reyes, son Jason Crow, sisters Judy Jones and Ruth Emily Crow, an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was the Administrator at Parkview Manor in Weimar for 10 years and that became his second home. John served his country as a Marine. Moving to Weimar, his first official duty was to join the Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and served on the Board of Directors of SWIFT, the non-profit Schulenburg Weimar In Focus Together, Inc. where he served two terms as Board Chair. Giving back to the community was very important to his role in life. National Public Radio (NPR) was close to his heart. He enjoyed weekend hikes in Austin with his sister, Ruth, his nephew Scott, and his beloved dog, Reign. Annual trips with his son, Jason, to explore the United States were also important to him. If you wanted a great steak on the grill, John was your man. John’s favorite book was John Steinbeck’s “Travels with Charley: In Search of America”. With his pickup, his dog Reign, and his longing for the road, he fulfilled his visions from the book every chance he had. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 16 in the Fellowship Hall at Calvary Baptist Church, 710 South Eagle Street in Weimar. A reception and meal will follow. Donations may be made on behalf of John to National Public Radio, KUTX Music or KUT News in Austin by calling (512) 475-6100, or contact the NPR Station of your choice.
