Gilbert Louis Stech
Gilbert Louis Stech, 84, of Weimar died peacefully at his home on July 18, 2016. He was born in New Beilau, Texas on Oct. 22, 1931 to Louis and Helene (Schoen) Stech. Gilbert married Faye Ophelia Raabe at the Weimar Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 26, 1951. They recently celebrated their 65th Anniversary with their family in March. Gilbert and Faye have been lifelong residents of Weimar. Gilbert graduated from Weimar High School in 1949 and after working on the family farm, he began his career working at MG Feed Mill before becoming a dairy farmer for many years. After retiring from farming, he spent the rest of his life as an antiques auctioneer and a real estate broker. He was an avid sports lover, both as a baseball and tennis player in his youth, and as a fan of the Astros, Rockets, and Texans after his playing career was over. He and Faye both enjoyed polka music and loved to attend Mollie B Polka Party shows. He was an adventurous cook and he loved making (and eating) homemade sausage with his lifelong friend Otto Kahlden. He showed up early for any and every event he ever attended, and he never missed an opportunity to tell his wife that she was beautiful. He will be remembered most for his brilliant sense of humor and his ability to tell a great story. He is survived by his wife Faye (Raabe) Stech of Weimar; his sister Diane Winters of Brenham; his daughter Linda Youens and her husband Dr. Robert of Carmine; his daughter Janet Berglund and her husband Johnny of Overgaard, Ariz.; his son Clyde Stech and his wife Lisa Rae of Goodlettsville, Tenn. and his daughter Judy Woodward and her husband Mike of La Grange. Together, he and Faye had 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, July 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hubbard Funeral Home in Weimar. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at the United Church of Christ in Weimar. Burial will take place at the Weimar Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Woodward, Kenny Youens, Mike Woodward, Mark Youens, Robert Youens, Joel Griffith, Kyle Spangenberg and Shane Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Otto Kahlden, Johnny Berglund, Caddo Sanders and James Booker. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ in Weimar or the charity of your choice.
