County Considers Tax Increase to Help Volunteer Fire Departments
By ANDY BEHLEN Fayette County Commissioners were set to meet Monday, July 25, to discuss a proposed four-cent property tax to increase funding to all of the volunteer fire departments in the county.
According to last year’s appraised values, the new tax would generate about $1.1 million. If approved, a property owner with a $100,000 home would see a $40 increase in their tax bill to the county. The county currently provides some financial assistance to the ten volunteer departments serving Fayette County. Last year the county increased its annual contribution from $100,000 to $148,000.
