John Fenzlein
Funeral services for John Fenzlein, 67, of Giddings, were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda with Rev. Dennis Tegtmeier officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m and on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family was present for visitation Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. John Wayne Fenzlein was born on November 30, 1948 in Brenham, Texas, the son of Alfred Fenzlein and Doris (Gruetzner) Fenzlein. He was baptized on December 15, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dime Box and was confirmed on March 3, 1963 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box. John was united in marriage to Mary Lou Bamsch on August 16, 1970 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda. He retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years and served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the North American Fishing Club and the NRA. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing dominoes, playing cards on his computer, barbecuing, gardening and working on cars. He passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at his home in Giddings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Doris Fenzlein; two brothers, Douglas Fenzlein and William Fenzlein; two aunts, Annie Bess Fenzlein and Sybil Turner; one uncle, Henry Fenzlein; his father-inlaw, Walter Bamsch, and his cousin, David Fenzlein. John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Fenzlein of Giddings; four children, Laurie Fenzlein of Brownsville, Lorine Fenzlein and William Keefer of North Zulch, Cathleen Smith and her husband, Vernon III of North Zulch and Scott Fenzlein of Giddings; ten grandchildren, Michael Eastland Smith of North Zulch, Vernon Smith IV of North Zulch, Thressie Sadler of Minnesota, Charlotte Cook of Normangee, Reba Sadler of Giddings, Charles Sadler III of Giddings, Kacie Hebert of Normangee, Dalton Hebert of Dallas, William Keefer III of North Zulch, and Wesley Keefer of North Zulch; six great grandchildren, Hunter Hebert, Carter Hebert, Baby Eastland Smith, Emori Bradford, James Mott and Aaron Mott. John is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lorine Bamsch of Warda;one sister-in-law, Dolores and her husband, Allen of Giddings; two brothers-in-law, Ralph and wife Carolyn Bamsch of Warda and Raymond and wife Ann Bamsch of Warda, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Sadler III, Michael Eastland Smith, William Keefer, Vernon Smith IV, Dalton Hebert, Wesley Keefer and Russell Kappler.
