Burn Ban is Lifted
By H.H. HOWZE Fayette County commissioners held a brief meeting Friday with only two items on the agenda.
They tackled the second item first, voting four to one to lift the county-wide burn ban. Precinct 3 commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff voted against lifting the ban saying his part of the county, the southeast, hasn’t received much rainfall.
The La Grange area has received 1.65 inches of moisture this month and 12.55 inches since June 1. The long term average for La Grange over the June-August period is 9.47 inches. Round Top rainfall amounts are 3.89 inches so far in August; 10.96 inches since June 1.
On the subject of taxes, specifically the two cents per hundred tax increase dedicated to county fire departments, there were no comments, but one person, Shelby Ingram of Cistern, wanted to address the court on the subject of the two percent salary increase they voted for themselves and other county employees. Judge Janecka ruled Ingram out of order and the meeting was adjourned.
