James Herbert Fajkus, 78, of Flatonia, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 at his ranch in Flatonia. James was born on Jan. 10, 1938 in Cistern. He was the son of Vencil and Hildagard (Naumann) Fajkus. James joined the US Air Force just out of high school. He served from 1957 until 1963. He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command; 380th Field Maintenance Squadron as an Airplane Mechanic. He was sent overseas and flew many missions along the enemy borders. James married Agnes Jurak on May 30, 1964 at Cistern Catholic Church in Cistern. James enjoyed learning about Fayette County History, reading and rock collecting. He liked flying, sky diving and water skiing. He loved his family, ranch, and his animals. His favorite dog was Rip. James liked home cooking, especially homemade cookies. James is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Agnes; three daughters, Jennifer Fajkus of Moulton, Rachel Olivares and her husband, Javier of Flatonia, and Erica Fajkus of La Grange; one brother, Ted Fajkus and his wife, June of Smithville; two sisters, Norma Hawkins of Houston and Sylvia Ratcliffe of Cistern; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Vencil and Hildagard Fajkus. Visitation was held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Smith Funeral Home. The family having a come-and-go meet and greet between 5 and 9 p.m. Funeral Mass under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia with Father Eddie Winkler officiating. A private interment followed. Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia was in charge of arrangements.
