Austin Energy Pledges Shut Down of its Stake In Power Plant by 2022
By ANDY BEHLEN Austin Energy pledged last week to pay off $5 million in debt associated with the Fayette Power Project as part of a plan to shut down its portion of the coal plant by 2022. The City of Austin electric utility also pledged to present a timeline for the shutdown by next year, according to an article that appeared Friday in the Austin American-Statesman.
Austin Energy co-owns Units 1 and 2 at FPP with the Lower Colorado River Authority. LCRA owns Unit 3 and operates all three units.
The plan requires approval from Austin City Council, which was set to vote on the matter Monday, Aug. 29.
