Perry Earns Rough Reviews After First Dancing With the Stars Show

Fayette County resident and former-governor Rick Perry is a contestant on this season’s Dancing With the Stars, a hit ABC series. The show airs Mondays at 7 p.m.

Far be it from the lurching, lead-footed Record editorial staff to criticize anyone’s dancing, yet others of the journalistic persuasion felt obliged to weigh in with reviews of Fayette County resident and former governor Rick Perry’s performance on Dancing With The Stars Monday night.

The Austin-American Statesman’s political reporter Jonathan Tilove did us all a solid by compiling a few reports on Perry’s debut from other Texas newspapers adding some of his own remarks in the mix.

First Tilove. “Yes, Texas, Rick Perry and his dance partner, Emma Slater, scored straight 5s on the season premier of Dancing with the Stars last night. Four fives for a grand total of 20 points, the lowest of any of the couples. Perry and Slater were among the last to dance - a sign of respect for his audience draw, I suspect - so he knew where they stood. But Perry reacted with the same exuberance as if they had scored straight 10s. “Yes! Five! I love you! You’re awesome!”

Perry’s seemingly irrational exuberance  - directed at a middling numeral - startled and delighted host Tom Bergeron. “Spoken like a real politician,” said a laughing Bergeron.
