Friday Night Preview - 9/23/16
La Grange vs. Taylor
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Leopard Stadium, La Grange
Records: La Grange is 1-2. Taylor 2-2.
Last season: The Leps downed Taylor 42-14. J.K. Dobbins ran for 297 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor’s Malik Jackson caught four passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Of Note: The Leps look to turn things around at home after a rough 42-13 loss on the road at Navarro last week. Priority No. 1 for the Leps may be holding onto the football after they turned the ball over four times last week. La Grange will also look to re-establish its running game after rushing for just 30 yards last week. Ohio State running back commit J.K. Dobbins remains sidelined with an ankle injury. Colter Siptak leads the Leps in rushing yards (195) and passing yards (301). Taylor is 2-2. The Ducks beat Rockdale 37-28 and Caldwell 63-35 and have lost to Waco Robinson 62-46 and Yoakum 36-28 ... The common thread in all of Taylor’s games is that they have scored a lot of points. The Ducks are led by junior quarterback Ryan Gardner who is 39 of 78 passing this season for 638 yards with 7 TDs and two interceptions. He has also run for 632 yards. Junior running back Jarrell Crittendon has run for 617 yards and is the returning district rushing leader from a year ago. A potent Ducks passing attack is led by senior wide receiver Malik Jackson, a 6-foot-3 University of Tulsa commit, who has 17 catches for 393 yards this season.

Thrall at Flatonia
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Flatonia
Records: Flatonia is 1-3. Thrall is 3-0.
Of Note: Flatonia welcomes undefeated Thrall to town for a homecoming night game. The Bulldogs are coming off a 35-34 loss to Brazos as Flatonia failed on a potential game-winning two point conversion try with no time left on the clock. Thrall’s defense has been a big part of their success this season as they have allowed just less than 12 points per game on average. Thrall was 7-4 last season and returns seven offensive and six defensive starters from that team including quarterback Nick Salazar, who threw for 2,000 yards a year ago ... Flatonia’s only victory this season has come against Hallettsville Sacred Heart, but the Bulldogs have played well in losses to a trio of quality teams (Tidehaven, Shiner St. Paul and Brazos) which bodes well for Flatonia in district play, which begins in two weeks. Flatonia quarterback Corey Lyons has run for seven touchdowns and 422 total yards this season, including three scores last week.
