Remember When?
Nov. 4-8, 1966 The first annual statewide memorial service of the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars was set for Sun., Nov. 6 at Praha. Secretary of State John Hill was to serve as principal speaker and Culp Krueger of El Campo and Congressman J.J. Pickle of the 10th Texas District as honored guests. The annual event had been known as an all-veterans’ memorial service. In 1965, the service had been sponsored by the Moulton VFW Post 6971, which later endorsed the event to the state VFW organization. A resolution forwarded to the Texas VFW Department was approved at its Houston convention. The service was held in the beautiful Praha parish cemetery where the only known plot for veterans and service personnel, except for Arlington National Cemetery, had been set aside.
