Schulenburg Rejects Co. Hotel Tax Resolution
Schulenburg City Council unanimously rejected a resolution of support for a countywide hotel occupancy tax at a special meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The Schulenburg Council previously took no action on the resolution at meeting on Nov. 7.
Schulenburg is the only municipality in the county to refuse support of the tax proposal. The city council in Fayetteville narrowly approved the resolution last month by a 3-2 vote. All other municipalities have passed it unanimously.
Fayette County Tourism Association (FCTA) asked all the municipalities to pass the non-binding resolution as a show of support for the proposal, which requires approval from the State Legislature. The proposal calls for a tax up to 7 percent on all overnight stays in areas of the county that don’t already have a municipal hotel occupancy tax.
Fayette County Commissioners Court set a public hearing on the proposed tax for Nov. 28. The hearing will take place at the courthouse in La Grange.
