Sexton
LuBeth Sexton, 81, of Victoria died Nov. 26, 2016. LuBeth was born in Rutersville Oct. 2, 1935 to the late William E. and Lillian Eck Meyer. She is survived by her husband, W. A. “Lefty” Sexton; her daughter, Suzanne Sexton Jordan (Kevin) and son, Kenneth Meyer Sexton (Traci) of Victoria; grandchildren, Erin Clodfelter, Sage Sexton, Christopher Jordan (Leslie), Katherine Jordan, Shelby Swoboda, Zach Swoboda; and great-granddaughter, Delila Thompson. LuBeth attended grade school in Rutersville where her father taught. She graduated from La Grange High School and Texas State University with a B.S. in Education. LuBeth loved music and the Arts. She mastered the piano and flute, which she played in the high school band. Additionally, she performed as the high school band twirler and ultimately led the band as Drum Majorette. She was a member of the 1st Methodist Church choir in La Grange as well. LuBeth continued her singing throughout college. On Feb. 20, 1960, LuBeth and Lefty married in Karnes City. They moved to Victoria and she began teaching at Smith Elementary in the fall 1960. She also taught at Patti Welder, Howell and Crain Middle Schools. In addition to her classroom experience, LuBeth was a member of the team that piloted and implemented the Gifted and Talented program for VISD. LuBeth’s love and dedication to the classroom and her students spanned 31 years. She was a gifted educator who influenced thousands of young people. LuBeth actively participated in numerous civic organizations and clubs including the Decora Study Club, Bon Aire Garden Club, Victoria Retired Teacher’s Association, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Azalea Garden Club, and numerous Bridge clubs. She was also a voracious reader and enjoyed working word puzzles. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Victoria. A visitation for family and friends was held Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. A funeral service will be Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Brewer officiating. Graveside services will be Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Rutersville Cemetery with Pastor Larry Green officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe Cohen, Lee Roy Menning, Jim Stokes, Jim Kiening, Mitchell Michalka, Eddie Wearden and James Elias. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas or donor’s choice.
