32-Page Draft of LG Sign Ordinance Presented

La Grange City Manager Shawn Raborn presented a working draft of the City’s new sign ordinance at the La Grange City Council meeting on Monday night, Dec. 12.

Raborn asked council members to review the draft for possible changes. Council plans to hold a meeting in early January to review any changes council members might propose. After that the City will hold a public hearing on the ordinance before voting whether to implement it.

The working draft Raborn presented was 32 pages long, compared to the roughly three-page-long existing ordinance. The draft would create nine new categories of signs requiring a city permit.

Raborn said the working draft was the result of recommendations by the Main Street Design Committee and his own review of sign ordinances from a number of cities including Bastrop, Marble Falls and Round Rock.

“I looked at a lot of different communities that have developed sign ordinances that have had a long-term working effect,” Raborn said.
