Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Thursday, Jan.  12, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sergeant Randy Thumann and canine partner Lobos, stopped a Jeep Latitude on Interstate 10 at the 656 mile-marker at approximately 2:30 p.m. for a traffic violation.

After observing several criminal indicators from the driver and an abnormal level of nervousness during the roadside interview Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics.

Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle and located approximately 15 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of $ 1.5 million dollars.

Assisting Sgt. Thumann with the vehicle search was Schulenburg Police Department and Fayette County Interdiction Unit Partner David Smith. The driver Francisco Javier Aguilar Jr., 27, of Laredo was arrested for Felony Drug Possession and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.

Thumann and Lobos had seized $1.2 million in cocaine last Monday after a traffic stop. We reported on that stop in Friday’s newspaper.
