Staying Grounded at the Fayetteville Coffee Club

Coffee and talk go together, as coffee drinkers know. So it’s natural for caffiene hounds to gather in groups and do their thing.

That’s probably been happening since the seeds of the African plant caffea were first roasted, ground and used to brew a beverage in Yemen sometime  in the 1400s (or earlier).

Every town or village with a public place to gather and drink coffee probably has a regular group of some kind which meets at a designated time, usually mornings.

In Fayetteville, one place was Keiler’s restaurant which burned a few years ago. These days, and for years going back to the late ‘70s and ‘80s, coffee drinkers have also gathered at Orsak’s cafe.

This group styles itself the Fayetteville Coffee Club and meets daily at a special expandable cedar table crafted by member Evan Quiros. Members of the group have signed one leaf of the table and noted the year in which they joined. The earliest date is 1978.
