Valentine Mitchell Liss
Valentine Mitchell Liss, 91, of Idaho Falls, died Feb. 1, 2017, at Morningstar Senior Living Center.
Mitch was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., to Michael Joseph Liss and Mary Ettle Liss. The family moved to Central City, S.D. where he attended school. He continued his education at the South Dakota School of Mines from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. During World War II he joined the U.S. Navy.
On Aug. 27, 1951, he married Janice Wormser in Mexico City, Mexico. He was a Project Engineer and Manager for several engineering and construction companies building fertilizer and petrochemical plants in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, Canada and the United States. He developed sea water purification equipment and designed a special hydrogen plant. Mitch’s true niche was as a Field Engineer solving start-up problems.
Janice died on Sept. 23, 2011. Following her passing Mitch met Lisel Gould and they fell in love. They have been companions and best friends for the last five years.
Mitch was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed painting, sketching, and playing golf. He was always thinking about and developing inventions that would make the world better. He was a very generous friend and wanted to help others.
Mitch is survived by his companion, Lisel Gould, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary; his wife, Janice; and six brothers and sisters.
A gathering for family and friends was held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon). Burial was at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
