Large Predator Suspected After Calf Found Killed
Something big killed a calf near Cozy Corner on Lane Pool Road late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, Feb. 11 or 12. The calf belonged to Leo Wick Sr.
His sons Leo Jr. and Daniel discovered the maimed corpse that morning. Something, possibly a mountain lion, tore the calf’s front left limb away from the body and carried it off. The calf also suffered injuries to its face and ears.
In an interview last Wednesday, Daniel Wick said he could find no tracks or blood trail leading away from the corpse. That could indicate whatever carried away the limb was able to do so without dragging it on the ground.
Daniel Wick said the calf weighed about 400 to 500 lbs. He added that neighbors have reported large cat sightings in the recent past.
He encouraged everyone in the area to check on their animals.
