Carolyn Darlene (Gattis) Halamicek

Carolyn Darlene (Gattis) Halamicek, 82, of La Grange, died on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017.

Carolyn was born in Gainesville on April 7, 1934, the daughter of Raymond and Velma (Nichcols) Gattis. She married Henry Halamicek, Jr. on Sept. 12, 1953 in El Campo.

Carolyn graduated Sam Houston State University with a master’s degree in Fine Arts. For over 25 years, she was a devoted English teacher in the Houston area.

She enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, especially her rose gardens, which she won numerous yard of the month awards for. Baking was another favorite pastime that her family and friends enjoyed as well. But the time she cherished most was with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons: Bryan Halamicek and wife, Ann, of Pocatello, Idaho and Cary Halamicek and wife, Lauri, of Fayetteville; brother-in-law, Clarence “CJ” Halamicek and wife, Prachit, of Fayetteville; two grandchildren: Marissa and Wade Halamicek; and two stepgrandchildren: Kanom and Jasmine Halamicek.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry, of 55 years; father-in-law and mother- in-law, Henry Halamicek, Sr. and Bessie Halamicek; brothersin- law and sisters-in-law, James and Doris Fitts and Harold and Margaret Harris.

Visitation was held on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services were held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Burial followed at Halamicek Cemetery.
