Bomb Squad from Austin Ignites ‘Napalm-Like Substance’ Found Here
A bomb squad was called to a residence on Oakland Road near Schulenburg on Saturday to dispose of some napalm-like material found inside a garage.
According to Sgt. Charles Jobb of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, a woman called 911 to report the material around 10:18 a.m. on April 8. Jobb said the woman had separated from her boyfriend, who had recently moved out of the home. Jobb said the woman located the material in her garage while going through some belongings that her ex left behind.
Jobb described the substance as a sticky gel, similar to napalm, that the man allegedly made by mixing gasoline with styrofoam packaging material. The gel was located inside a cardboard box. Jobb said the material was highly flammable but not explosive.
Deputy Joe Martin responded to the home. He called the Austin Police Department Bomb Squad for advice about how to dispose of the material. The bomb squad instead offered to dispose of it themselves. They arrived Saturday afternoon. Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department stood by with a fire truck while the authorities from APD safely ignited the material to dispose of it. Jobb said the Sheriff’s Office had not been able to located the woman’s ex. He said investigators wished to speak with him to find out why he made the material.
