Nellie Frances (Gates) Wiist

Nellie Frances (Gates) Wiist, 92, of Flatonia, died Friday, May 5, 2017. Nellie was born in Hoopeston, Ill. on Feb. 25, 1925, the daughter of Samuel and Clarissa Matilda (Moore) Gates. Nellie loved spending time with her family, traveling, playing cards and dominoes and watching the Astros play baseball. She is survived by a sister, Anabelle Fookes of Houston; two grandsons: Steven Humphrey and wife, Andrea, of League City; and Darcy Humphrey of Flatonia; granddaughter, Gina Kay Humphrey and husband, Gilbert Flores, of Flatonia; six great grandchildren: Justin Ray Humphrey, Ally Star Humphrey, Kirsten Humphrey, Alesse Humphrey, Anaissa Humphrey, Nick Flores; and numerous extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow beginning at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia. Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange is in charge of arrangements.
