La Grange Sales Tax Numbers Moving Up
For the third month in a row, La Grange sales tax revenue is up from the same month last year. It’s a welcome change from the declines the local economy has suffered for most of the past two years.
From May 2015 to the end of 2016, La Grange sales tax dropped from the prior year for 17 of the 20 months. But so far in 2017, it’s been up for four of the five months. Texas cities depend heavily upon sales tax revenue to support their general operations, and La Grange is no exception. And while the gains are small, at least it’s finally going the right direction.
State Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent La Grange a check for $181,059 as its May share of sales taxes collected. That’s up 2.77 percent from the $176,161 the city got in May of 2016.
