Record Crowned Top Newspaper in the Gulf Coast Region
The Fayette County Record was crowned the top semiweekly in the Gulf Coast region of Texas Friday at the 79th annual Texas Gulf Coast Press Association Convention in Galveston.
Competing in the division for the largest papers, The Record took home the Sweepstakes Award for placing higher and in more contests than any other semiweekly newspaper.
Overall the Record won six first place awards and 13 total awards, all for work done during the 2016 calendar year.

Three distinguished journalists from the Texas Gulf Coast region were inducted into the association’s Hall of Honor Saturday including Chad Ferguson (who covers Fayette County along with Colorado and Austin Counties at the Columbus-based Banner-Press newspaper), editor Greg Peak of the Polk County Enterprise and publisher Adair Luker of the Vidorian newspaper, in Vidor.
