Fred Eaglesmith Plays Sengelmann Hall Saturday

Canadian singer-songwriter Fred Eaglesmith performs at Sengelmann Hall in Schulenburg on Saturday night, June 3. 

Eaglesmith last performed at Sengelmann about three years ago with Schulenburg natives the Ginn Sisters. He’s now married to one of the sisters, Tiffany, who will join him on stage Saturday night, along with Tiffany’s uncles the Pettit Brothers.

Folks who don’t know Eaglesmith may recognize his 1998 song “I Like Trains,” which probably gets more radio airplay today than it got two decades ago when it first came out.

“Sometimes it takes them 20 years to start playing your old stuff,” Eaglsmith said in an interview with the Record on Wednesday. 

Saturday’s show will feature material from his latest album, “Standard,” which came out this January.

“I’ve been working on this record for a couple of years, pretty much by myself,” Eaglesmith said. “Then Tiffany set me down in a corner and said, ‘Let me take this.’ She started mixing it. She’s really good at it. It was the first time for us to do that, but she is a natural, of course...
