A gathering of family and friends took place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at Christ Our Light Catholic Church. A vigil service followed by a Rosary followed at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass was celebrated 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. The rite of committal followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Matthew, Stephen and Martin Kallus, Ross Barnett, Dan Cernoch and Ron Dusek. She was preceded in death, in 2011, by husband Eddie Kallus, to whom she was married for 61 years. She was a longtime community member of Navasota, moving from La Grange with her husband, in 1950. As a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church (formerly St. Patrick’s Catholic Church) and the community of Navasota at large, she will be missed by all. Janie was born on Dec. 18, 1929, to Cecelie and Jim Dolezal of Ammannsville. Well, it was actually between Holman and Ammannsville, but who’s counting a few miles. Cecelie and Jim had three daughters, Loretta Cernoch (89), Alma Dusek (88), and the youngest was Janie (87). Imagine, having three daughters that close in age, marvelous! Not certain a mother of 1, 2 and 3-year-old girls would say so, and Jim likely had his shotgun loaded many times with three teenage daughters. Regardless, they would be proud knowing the faithful lives their daughters led, impacting many in the community and leaving a legacy of loving family members. Janie was a graduate of Weimar High School Class of 1948. Soon after, Janie caught the eye of Eddie Kallus at a public dance. Eddie later proposed in the car somewhere on the way to Dubina and almost ran off the road. They married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on July 3, 1950 in Ammannsville. They moved from La Grange to Navasota to make their home and begin a family. Janie worked for Patout and Co., a CPA firm, for over 40 years. She was a skilled accountant and trusted employee and could prepare the most complicated tax return prior to the development of computer software. She was “Turbo Tax”! Her knowledge, skills and reputation of hard work not only stood out at the office, but also in the community. Janie was a devout member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church. She dedicated her time to the Catholic Daughters of America, the church Altar Society, and numerous fundraising efforts for the church. Her faith was known by all. She was a pillar of the Church, someone who never shied away from service that needed to be done. Janie and Eddie had two children, Chris and Bridgette. Janie was very active in their lives, always on the go attending every one of their school functions, recitals and baseball games. Their family took many road trips, visited family and friends across the country, and attended church and community events on most weekends. They managed to put their two kids through college, and see them get married and raise families. Janie has six grandkids, and one great-grand daughter whomshe loved dearly. She would do anything to be at every Baptism, Confirmation, graduation, party, celebration, and family gathering, believing each moment was special. Simply put, she was always there. Even in her last few years of life, she immediately lit up when the family was together. Her family was her light. Janie will be missed greatly by her family and friends. She is survived by son Chris Kallus and wife Diana of Victoria; daughter Bridgette Barnett of Houston; six grandchildren, Matthew Kallus and fiancé Kristi Duncan, Stephen Kallus all of Alvin; Martin Kallus of College Station; Jordan Barnett of Christiansburg, Va.; Alyssa Barnett of Houston; and Ross Barnett of Lubbock; one amazing great-granddaughter, Allison Kallus of Alvin; two sisters, Loretta Cernoch of Weimar and Alma Dusek of Schulenburg; along with numerous other relatives and a great number of friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society(www.cancer.org), Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org), or Christ our Light Catholic Church, 510 Manley St., Navasota, Texas 77868.
