Scott Parker to Resign as Justice of the Peace

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Scott Parker announced last week that he plans to resign his position effective at the end of this month.

“It has been my honor to serve the citizens in Fayette County as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, since January 2005. It is with a great deal of gratitude that I would like to inform my consitituents that I am resigning from my elected position at the end of June 2017,” Parker said in a statement issued on Thursday, June 8.

Parker, a Democrat, cited personal and family reasons for his decision to leave office. Parker said he is making the announcement now in order to give anyone thinking about running for the position time to make their decision. Candidates must file for a place on the March 2018 primary ballot between Nov. 11 and Dec. 11.
